“Helping students soar” was the proposed theme for the mural.
To represent this concept, I introduced the work of two great Canadian artists who experienced the spirit of the landscape and painted it in a very unique way. Inspired by Tom Thompson’s use of colours and the dynamic representation of the woods in Emily Carr’s work, students expressed their learning journey using elements of nature in a symbolic way.
The mural depicts a strong visual connection between the woods and the ospreys becoming unified. This synergy is achieved by the active role that the school takes in preparing the students to soar academically and socially, and their aspiration in opening their wings to embrace knowledge.
Symbolizing the learning process, leaves turn into ospreys ready to discover new horizons.
