Mississauga, Ontario
Kindergarten to Grade 5
Celebrating the union of two elementary schools (Ashgrove and Garthwood Park), all the students now in Garthwood Park P.S. participated in the creative process of three large murals depicting “unity” and the feelings of “inclusiveness” and “community” that is present within the school.
Inspired by the beauty of Nature, each project embraces a special connotation:
Tree: 5’ x 8’, acrylic & mixed media on masonite
The tree was named “HARAMBEE”, a Swahili word for “together”, “team work” and “collaboration”.
Orchids: 4’ x 6’, acrylic on masonite
The orchids represent the “blooming” of the new Garthwood Park community.
Waterscape: 4’ x 24’, acrylic & mixed media on masonite
The courtyard waterscape transmits a feeling of peace and serenity for the outdoor learning garden.
“You are such a treasure! You have a gift for bringing the artist out in everyone, whether they are 3 or 10 years. Your commitment, energy and compassion to our children are appreciated more than you know. You have a beautiful resilient spirit that radiates to others. With deepest gratitude.” Garthwood Team
